On June 4, 2021 Local 919 conducted an informational picket in front of USP Leavenworth. Staffing concerns at USP Leavenworth has gone on for far too long. The continuous practice of Augmentation, far outside the scope of negotiated procedures, and constant mandatorily assigned overtime has created unsafe conditions for our staff. Local 919 was pleased to speak with members of the media, State Representative Jeff Pittman, as well as representatives for Kansas' 2nd District Congressman Jacob LaTurner. This event offered a very powerful platform for Local 919 Leaders to express these issues, and increase pressure on the administration to correct these problems. Local 919 was pleased to host AFGE District 9 National Vice President Shawn Petty, as well as, Council of Prison Locals North Central Regional Vice President Brian Mueller. Members from other Locals including, Leavenworth VA, Topeka VA, Kansas City VA, USP Thomson were also on site to show unity and support for our staff.
